Written by: The Administrator Two editions of ON THE HORIZON within the span of a few months, let alone the same damn calendar year, is unheard of. Unprecedented, even. In any case, here we horizongazers are once more, getting hyped to sink our teeth into a yet-to-be-released album. Listening to the available single on near-obsessive repeat. Awaiting that promo with bated breath. As of today, March 27th, there is currently one single available from GREENLEAF's forthcoming The Head & The Habit, and I have enjoyed it, erm, quite substantially. Which is to say I am responsible for at least 10? 15? of the views on the music video hosted on Magnetic Eye Record's youtube. It's a bangin' lead single, and the video is a helluva fun ride to boot. "Breathe, Breathe Out" does exactly what a lead single should do: build ample anticipation. With this forthcoming being their ninth(!) album, GREENLEAF aren't exactly an unknown quantity when it comes to foot-stompin' and hard rockin' tunes. Energetic and engaging riffs alongside remarkably earwormy vocal hooks are the name of the game, and "Breathe, Breathe Out" serves as a prime exemplar of both. Even whilst listening to other music, I've had the catchy chorus running laps through my head. The titular refrain is so sticky and singable. Not to be outdone, that central riff feels so immediately classic. And then there's the music video, which is just so goddamn fun. Self-referential and comical, it is an exceptionally well conceived and edited slice-of-life. Following the band during bring-your-kid-to-work-day, the video captures some endearing hijinks. It's sweet, heartfelt, wholesome, and reinforces the go-with-the-flow lyrical theme. I'm not often entertained by music videos, but this one is very well done. Bottom line? "Breathe, Breathe Out" is a damn good song. To call it a solid addition to GREENLEAF's overall catalog is at best an understatement. If the rest of this album matches this level of quality, we're in for an absolute banger. GREENLEAF - The Head & The Habit will be released June 26, 2024 via Magnetic Eye Records.
