BORBORYGMUS - Make Them Die...Slowly (Track Premiere)

You know the adage that runners will inevitably tell you they are runners, without every being prompted to do so? I’m that guy with Borborygmus. Stick around long enough, and, utterly uninvited, I promise I’ll start talkin’ about Wisconsin’s finest one-man goregrind outfit. What I admire most is this constant process of self-betterment--the gradual remixing and reconstruction of old tracks into their final polished form, across a series of many EPs and singles. Borborygmus drops new morsels with ridiculous regularity, and so my diet consistently consists of said morsels. The tracks get better with time, yet still maintain a raw and visceral quality that one craves when it comes to goregrind consumption. We’re happy and honored to premiere an entirely new track today, feverishly torn from the ghastly innards of the forthcoming Splatter Movie Madness--which will be Borborygmus’ third official release of the year.

As mentioned in our review of Ghoulish Goremet, an EP released earlier this year, Borborgymus stands out from contemporaries due to the inclusion of less-than traditional goregrind guitarwork. To quote: “There’s also a distinct and praiseworthy attention given to the riffage, which feels wholly unique in the realm of goregrind--these galloping leads, at times, seems ripped straight from the NWOBHM playbook.” In the case of “Make Them Die Slowly,” today’s track in question, this genre melding and experimentation moves distinctly into the punk arena, with the “gore” remaining self-evident in the cannibalism tropes, and the “grind” disappearing behind a curtain of aggressive punk rock ‘tude. The toilet gurgles are still there, of course, albeit buried under some frenetic riffs and a lo-fi production job for the ages. It’s fast, loose, and somehow upbeat, given the deliberate horror-movie aesthetic.

​And, of course, the thing is damn brief, clocking in at under a minute and a half, with a sample taking up nearly a third of the run-time. It’s quick and doesn’t overstay its welcome--a smart choice, given the sandpaper application of vocals and riffage. Like unto the best of grind, this track takes an idea, presents it, and then leaves without sticking around for a rebuttal.
