You may ask yourself, hitting play on the track below: “When did Ancient Hand start writing Absolute Fukkin Bangerz? Question of the day, folks. On previously outings, as I noted over on the Village’s Instagram outpost: “Ancient Hand dwell[ed] in an intriguing space between electronic sounscape'd ambiance, and the delectable dark synth one finds lurking in dungeon depths...expertly balancing an ominous air with a feather-gentle touch. Muggy claustrophobia meets ethereal ungroundedness.” Not so much anymore, as the artist in question takes a hard left turn at the corner of “continuing to do things the same way” and “shaking it up quite a bit, actually.”
"ORAL" is Name Your Own Price over on bandcamp, and if you throw down a buck today, March 20th, bandcamp will give 100% to the artist. Just sayin.' Listen to it here: "ORAL" is a display of experimental electronic/noise/hip-hop beat, ranging from undistilled Death Grips-ian fury, to timeless pulsating bass-ridden rage, to gritty NYC boom-bap diss track circa '93. A whole damn lot occurs in this minute and 43 seconds, and transitions between sonic elements is delightfully smooth. The lyrics, a heavily distorted refrain of "oh fu-FUCK," is equal parts raw and distanced--tangible-yet-untouchable aggression. All the while, the bass heaves like a humpback in a vomitorium. A couple wailing sirens and pseudo vinyl scratches only add to the levels of sonic chaos. And, like most good things, it's over before things have truly begun. If that ain't a strong trait for a lead single, I dunno what is. But what, you may ask, hasn’t changed? Easy: “Ancient Hand's strongest suit is the utter lack of dull moments.” That quote, I dare say, holds up. Ancient Hand - "ORAL" was released today, March 20th, ahead of the yet-to-be-named 3rd album
